Anthropologie, the women's clothing and home furnishings company, asked WORKac to re-conceptualize the brand's retail store image. They are a fast-growing successful company, but were concerned that their stores weren't developing with them, and expressed interest in modernizing. WORK's approach was to assess what was and was not successful in the current stores; we were interested in preserving the vital elements of the store's identity, while bringing new ideas and getting rid of the clutter and frequently haphazard merchandising.
Our proposal involved three main ideas: to enhance the narrative aspect of Anthropologie's display by giving it definite boundaries to frame the scene; to provide a more organized shopping experience by creating a series of storage and display walls which clear floor space; finally, to introduce large scale focal points to orient the shopper's experience and provide a counterpoint to the typical mall atmosphere (such as the glazed interior courtyards, carved out of the roof, shown in the following renderings).
