ANTHROPOLOGIE DOS LAGOS
PROJECT DIRECTOR

Anthropologie, the women's clothing and home furnishing company, commissioned WORKac to revitalize their store concept, while maintaining the essence of their image. After an extensive research and analysis period, the first application of this concept is in Corona, California.

We concentrated on maintaining the narrative aspect of Anthropologie's stores, while clearing away the clutter to create larger points of focus in the space. We pushed the merchandise to the perimeter, alternating between well organized shopping areas and the more intimate rooms appropriate for staging scenes to tell a story. The alternating rhythm of these rooms is continued in glass facade, which ripples back and forth to create both interior rooms and exterior display vitrines.

The L-shaped plan creates the space for our two focal points: the courtyard and shoppable hill. The glazed courtyard is open to the sky, and has a lawn complete with an orange tree. The natural setting in an interior setting startles the shopper out of their typical mall experience. The very artificial shoppable hill directly contrasts with the courtyard, and provides a bench for sitting, space for clothing and power outlets to display lighting. We continued bringing nature to an unnatural setting on the facade, where star jasmine grows above the glass curtain on the patterned screen.
